Google released their street view enhancement to Google Maps.  Reports earlier in the year of vans driving down streets taking pictures where all over the net, but nobody knew what it was about - until now.   

What is interesting to me about this is how quickly people have sifted through the detrius of 1000’s of kilometres worth of footage, collected, categorised and tagged these snippets in less than a week.  Chris Anderson’s Long Tail book describes a similar phenomonia in relation to a couple of amateur astronomers in NZ and then Oz just happening to be studying a part of the sky that enabled professional astronomers in Japan prove a theory about Supernova’s.  No matter how big the thing you are looking for - somebody, somewhere has found it.
